Kind of a few days late and several dollars short on this one, but I just found out that Jack Rose passed away on Dec. 5th from a heart attack. He was just 38. He kind of held the Fahey/Basho mantle for my generation, but he did things with his Martin and Weissenborn that were entirely his own. I was lucky enough to catch him one evening on a big bill of experimental music at the Upstate Artists Guild here in Albany. It was a really wonderful, but brief performance, and I’m damn glad I made the effort to get out there that night. Here’s one of my favorite tracks of his, “Cathedral et Chartres.” Out there in the aether, now. All best, Mr. Rose.
